Dr. Jodi Edwards, PhD​

Co-Chair​

Dr. Jodi Edwards is an Associate Professor at the University of Ottawa and the Director of the Brain and Heart Nexus Research Program at the University of Ottawa Heart Institute (UOHI). A leading cardiovascular epidemiologist, her research focuses on the intersection of heart and brain health, developing predictive models and innovative neuromodulation therapies to improve patient recovery. She is a highly decorated investigator who leads several major national research programs and clinical trial platforms.

Dr. Kelly Cobey, PhD​

Co-Chair​

Dr. Kelly Cobey is an Associate Professor at the University of Ottawa and a Scientist at the University of Ottawa Heart Institute, where she leads the Metaresearch and Open Science Program. Her work focuses on improving how scientific research is conducted, reported, and evaluated to ensure transparency and integrity. Dr. Cobey holds numerous leadership positions with national and international organizations, such as the DORA (Declaration on Research Assessment) Advisory Board, and consults for agencies like the Public Health Agency of Canada.

Dr. Alan Evans, PhD​

Co-PI​

Dr. Alan Evans is a Distinguished James McGill Professor of Neurology and Neurosurgery at McGill University and a researcher at The Neuro's McConnell Brain Imaging Centre. A world leader in neuroimaging and neuroinformatics, he pioneered the use of 3D multi-modal brain imaging. He leads major national and international initiatives, including the Canadian Open Neuroscience Platform (CONP) and McGill's "Healthy Brains for Healthy Lives" project. Dr. Evans is a highly decorated scientist, recognized with the Killam Prize and ranked among the world's most influential brain scientists by Science magazine.

Dr. Peter Liu, MD, FRCPC​

Co-PI

Dr. Peter Liu is the Scientific Director of the University of Ottawa Heart Institute. A cardiologist trained at the University of Toronto and Harvard Medical School, he is a renowned leader in developing national and international research strategies. In his previous roles, including as Scientific Director at CIHR, he launched major collaborative networks in imaging and clinical trials. Dr. Liu has been recognized with numerous prestigious honours, including the Order of Ontario and the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Canadian Cardiovascular Society.

Andrée Marcille

Project Manager

Andrée is the Project Manager for ARCHIMEDES. She holds a BSc in Human Kinetics from the University of Ottawa and a Master of Health Studies from Athabasca University. With several years of experience in healthcare and research, she brings valuable expertise to her role at ARCHIMEDES. Andrée oversees day-to-day operations and leads strategic planning, coordinating efforts across internal teams and external partners from diverse departments.

Samir Das

Associate Director, Technology

Samir Das is Associate Director of Research Software Development at the McGill Centre for Integrative Neuroscience. With over 20 years at the Neuro, he leads LORIS development and oversees C-BIG. Actively involved in global Open Science, he contributes to several initiatives and working groups. Through these efforts, he supports ARCHIMEDES by enabling secure, scalable, and transparent platforms for data integration and sharing.

Bryan Caron

Director, Operations and Development

Bryan Caron leads CBRAIN, a web-based distributed computing platform, and is Co-PI and Director of Operations and Development for NeuroHub, part of McGill’s HBHL initiative. With 25+ years in HPC and data-intensive science, he has held roles at McGill’s HPC Centre. CBRAIN is a core ARCHIMEDES component, enabling secure, scalable big data analysis on HPC and cloud resources.

Katie Dinelle

Administrative Director, IMHR

Katie Dinelle is Director of Research Innovation, Strategic Initiatives, and Data at the University of Ottawa’s IMHR. She established the region’s brain imaging research hub and, in partnership with CAMH, led the creation of the Mental Health Node within ARCHIMEDES—a CFI-funded platform providing access to mental health data through a centralized research infrastructure.

Marc Albert

Community and Partnership Liaison

Marc is the Community and Partnerships Liaison for ARCHIMEDES. With an MSc in Health Systems from the University of Ottawa, he has worked with various health research groups. Marc engages with researchers to understand their needs for a health data platform and collaborates with technical and governance experts to ensure alignment across all aspects of ARCHIMEDES.

Jessica Edmonds

Data Governance and Education Specialist

Jessica Edmonds is the Data Governance and Education Specialist for ARCHIMEDES at the University of Ottawa Heart Institute. She develops governance frameworks and educational materials, including consent templates for Research Ethics Boards. With a BA in Psychology and an MPH, she collaborates with patients, caregivers, and privacy experts to address data sharing practices and promote open science principles.

Janina Ramos

Research Assistant - Data Standards

Janina is a Research Assistant with ARCHIMEDES, leading projects on data standards in cardiovascular research. She conducts a scoping review to identify existing standards and gaps for harmonizing clinical and preclinical data. Previously, she worked with the Metaresearch and Open Science Program and the Centre for Journalology. Janina holds a BSc (Honours) in Biomedical Science from the University of Ottawa.

UX Developer

Mario is a web developer focused on building accessible, high-performance, and user-friendly websites. Drawing on his expertise in front-end development, he translates project objectives into intuitive digital experiences. He is a proven collaborator within cross-functional teams, working to improve usability and ensure the final product effectively meets the needs of its users.

Data Engineer

Sruthy is a Data Engineer with the Archimedes team, specializing in building scalable pipelines and ensuring data reliability. I contribute technical expertise and uphold data standards to enable data-driven insights. Passionate about innovation and collaboration, I’m dedicated to delivering solutions that enhance the platform’s data quality and overall capabilities.

Haiqa Haroon

Research Assistant - Cross-Cutter Liaison

Haiqa is a Research Assistant on the ARCHIMEDES team with a background in Biomedical and Electrical Engineering. She brings R&D experience in medical devices, with strengths in workflow design, data analysis, and validation. Her work combines technical expertise with a human-centered approach, collaborating with patient partners and supporting UX efforts to enhance accessibility and impact across healthcare research.

Research Assistant - Communications

Bukky is the Communications Lead for ARCHIMEDES. In this role, she develops and executes strategic communications to highlight the ARCHIMEDES groundbreaking work in health data. With a Bachelor’s degree in Biomedical Science and a professional background spanning clinical research. Bukky combines scientific knowledge with creative strategy to craft clear, impactful messaging that connects with diverse audiences.

Nadia Farrag

De-identification Expert

Nadia Farrag, PhD, is the Data De-Identification Expert for ARCHIMEDES at the University of Ottawa Heart Institute. She develops resources to support open-source de-identification methods and co-leads the CMR-BIDS initiative. With a PhD in Biomedical Engineering and a background in health data privacy, she combines research expertise with clinical experience as a certified MRI technologist.

Data Systems Lead (IMHR)

Alex is the Data Systems Lead for the Mental Health Node of ARCHIMEDES, a CFI-funded platform developed with IMHR and CAMH. He manages digital infrastructure, oversees data flows, and develops research pipelines, ensuring seamless data integration across systems within ARCHIMEDES.

Christie Aguiar

Project Manager (IMHR)

Christie is the Project Manager for the Mental Health Node of ARCHIMEDES, a CFI-funded platform by IMHR and CAMH. She oversees operations, coordinates data flows, ensures governance compliance, and facilitates collaboration. With experience in research, clinical trials, and biobank management, she supports secure data integration and advances interoperability within the ARCHIMEDES platform.

Patient Partners

Mike Yeates, P.Eng, CPA

Mike Yeates is a patient partner at the University of Ottawa Heart Institute, having had open heart surgery to solve an aorta aneurysm. He is also a retired Senior Business Technology Executive. His career spanned the federal public service, IT executive leadership, and management consulting, where he specialized in client relationship management, strategic transformation, operations improvement, and project management. Mike has expertise in developing and implementing innovative IT solutions aligned with business needs, and an ability to improve business results during periods of change. He is known for his inclusive leadership, creative problem-solving, and strong communication skills.

Michael Halas

Michael Halas is a patient partner with lived experience of anxiety, panic disorder, and periodic depression. He uses his lived experience to advocate for patients largely through advocacy talks, fund-raising efforts, videos, and research projects at the municipal, provincial, and federal levels to help drive patient care. Michael graduated from McMaster with a specialist degree in Psychology, and worked in specialist and leadership roles in the Information Technology field with several fortune 500 companies specializing in complex IT solution designs for banks, businesses, and government for over 20 years. He continues to contribute to quality improvement projects to help enhance the patient experience and make it more accessible.

Osmo Ramakko

Osmo Ramakko joined the University of Ottawa Heart Institute as a volunteer patient partner in 2025, and is a retired Civil Engineer. He enjoys working with both clinical and research teams dedicated to improving outcomes for cardiac care patients. Osmo has a 33-year track record of significant achievements as an Executive with the Ontario Public Service (OPS). He is a strong leader, able to effectively implement change at organizational and service delivery levels. He is known for his communication skills and the ability to influence stakeholders and construct relationships with business partners. Osmo is a two-time recipient of the Amethyst Award for leadership, the OPS’s highest public service award.
